In Spain we use so much the mortar for so many things.  If we want to prepare ajillo sauce (garlic sauce) we do it here, also for the majao (matching garlic & parsley) so famous in the paella. 

People sometimes prefer to have a wooden mortar, we also have available the ceramic one.
